Fairchild Semiconductor has developed the FL7701 intelligent non-isolated buck LED driver with power factor correction. The device uses a digital technique that automatically detects the AC input voltage condition to generate a special internal reference signal for high PF correction. The FL7701 also operates from a DC input voltage and automatically detects AC or DC input voltage modes. In MR lighting applications, the traditional technology of using transformers will cause additional losses due to the conversion efficiency of the transformer. Now, the FL7701, which is directly connected to the DC or AC offline input, can replace this traditional inefficient method. Â
